How to Use Temporary Colors on Hair Extensions

Sometimes you’re itching for a new look, but feel worried about being stuck with something you don’t love for weeks. If you are looking to commit to a bold color, check out the Color Takeover Portal for some great looks you can achieve with our #60 Hair Extensions. For a strictly temporary look, you can use #60, or extensions going as dark as a #8 Light Chestnut Brown. Darker colors may take to these temporary colors, but they won’t look as bold. No matter what you’re looking for, we’re confident we can help you find it. Here are a few ideas:

Joico InstaTint
We love Joico! We use their Color Intensity line for all of our Color Takeover looks. If you are looking for some instant color that doesn't last too long, their InstaTint is the perfect choice. It couldn’t be easier to apply, you simply spray it onto the hair you want to color. This style of application is great if you are going for an ombre or balayage look. You can also add pops of color to a braid or ponytail. If you want more saturated color, just spray on another layer. It works best on lighter hair but can add great color to darker shades as well. This temporary color lasts up to three days on your natural hair, or until you wash it out. Your extensions will probably fade more slowly. InstaTint comes in five great colors; Fiery Coral, Mermaid Blue, Orchid, Pink, and Sapphire Blue.

Color Washes
Shampoos and conditioners with color in them are especially great for people maintaining a head of colorful hair, but you can use them to get color without any dye at all. Just add it after you shampoo your hair, right in the shower! There are tons of colors to choose from and the results vary from highly saturated to subtle - depending on your hair color and the dye you choose. We recommend using Overtone or Viral—you can get these brands online or at a local store. Your hair needs to be pre-lightened to get a bold color when you use a color wash, but can be used on darker colors for some great results. The color will last the same amount of time that a semi-permanent dye lasts unless you continue applying the wash.

Hair Chalk
Hair chalk only lasts as long as you want it to, and will come out in a single wash. It’s perfect when you only need color for a short amount of time. Showing school spirit? Fancy dress-up party? Hair chalk is low-commitment and can even be used for a “trial run” before a total color commitment. Make sure the extensions are clean and brushed out, and only rub the color in one direction on the extension weft to prevent tangling and matting. Some people find that extensions are more absorbent of chalk color if they’ve been properly washed and rinsed beforehand. So, if you are looking for a more vibrant look, try giving your hair a wash first!

Clip-Ins
Add a pop of color in a snap, literally. If these other options still sound like too much commitment you can always check out the Clip-Ins we sell on our site. We offer 100% Remy human hair or synthetic clips in natural and funky colors, so you can add bold color or give highlights a try without having to alter your own hair at all.

We always encourage you to be bold and beautiful, because that’s what Donna Bella is all about. Maybe a new color will be right for you. Follow us on our other social media sites for more hair color #inspo.
