Bedtime Hair Care Routines
Posted by Donna Bella on
The last thing you want to do when you’re ready to call it a day is what seems like one more chore. But honestly, the small amount of time you take to care for your locks before bed will make the biggest difference in maintaining healthy, gorgeous looking hair. The best part about bedtime hair care is that you’re letting a product work while you sleep, which means you’re allowing it more time to do its job. It definitely beats the two minute TLC you give your hair while conditioning in the shower. Try these routines and tell me you don’t see a difference.
Hair masks and deep conditioners. We know most deep conditioners don’t take a whole lot of time and some are fairly quick (like Aussie’s 3 minute miracle deep conditioner), but you really should try sleeping with one on once a month. Letting the deep conditioner or hair mask take its time to absorb into your hair will help nourish and restore your strands. This is especially great for your hair extensions as you want to keep them as shiny and in the best shape as possible. Apply it to your extensions (keeping aways from your bonds, beads, or tape) and put it up in a loose bun or braid before getting in bed.
Braids. Want to avoid tangling, frizz, and matting? Take one minute to put your hair extensions in a loose braid—don’t pull too tight. Your hair will feel much better in the morning and you won’t have to brush as much. Contrary to what you’ve heard, brushing 100 strokes a day will not make your hair shiny and full. Over-brushing causes too much friction for your hair, leading to split ends and breakage.
Take a no-heat break. Try showering an hour or two before bed, allowing your hair to air dry. After lots of blow drying, straightening, and curling, your hair will be thankful to have a break. If you’re worried about having an oily scalp the next day, try a dry shampoo. It will not only remove excess oil and cleanse without water, it will add some volume too! There’s one for every budget ranging from Suave’s Dry Shampoo Spray to Oscar Blandi’s Pronto Dry Shampoo Invisible Spray.
