If you’re new to extensions, it's normal to wonder: do Tape-In extensions damage your hair?

The short answer? No, they don’t cause damage. In fact, Tape-Ins are one of the most popular extension methods. They are well-loved by stylists and clients because of how easy they are to install and remove.

Here are some considerations to keep in mind when you create your new look using Tape-Ins.

Work with a trained stylist

Work with a certified stylist who knows Donna Bella Hair® products and is certified in Tape-Ins. Trained stylists are able to help you choose the right method, color and length. They will also know the proper techniques for your install and your move-up appointment or removal. Stylists who have been certified with us are also familiar with how to cut, blend and style the hair after it’s been installed in order to create a natural and believable look. Learn about maintenance and aftercare

Did you know that, with proper care and maintenance, our extensions can be used up to 3 times? It all comes down to knowing how to care for your hair after you’ve had the extensions installed. The right washing, conditioning, brushing, and styling are essential to get the longest wear out of your extensions as possible. Take ownership and ask questions

How Tape-In extensions work

Perfect for those who don't want to spend a whole lot of time at the salon, Tape-Ins install quickly and easily. They are attached to your natural hair using a medical-grade adhesive that’s safe and effective in providing a secure hold.

Tape-Ins are removed with bond remover and can be reinstalled with replacement tape. They come in lengths ranging from 12" to 30" and in a variety of shades: blonde, brunette, reds, ombre and rooted ombre.

Another great aspect of Tape-Ins is that they have two applications – single and double sided wefts. If you have fragile or finer hair and want a lightweight application, a single-sided weft install is perfect. If you’re looking for more volume and density, or maybe you want the option of using 2 different colors for more dimension, a double-sided weft install (with the natural hair sandwiched in between) is a great option.

Work with your stylist to determine how much hair is needed and what will work best for the look you want to create.

What do people love about Tape-In extensions?

Tape-In hair extensions are our fastest method to install in the salon and they give instant fullness. They can be installed in as little as 60 minutes and you’ll only need to come to the salon every 4-8 weeks for your move-up appointment. Tape-Ins are an effective method for adding volume and length without causing any discomfort to the scalp. They can also be used to add dimension as you can use various color combinations, like with a double weft application. Tape-Ins are also great for those with curly or wavy hair as they are available in those textures.

What should I know before my installation appointment?

Have an in-depth consultation with your stylist before the install. This will help you discover exactly what look is possible, plus you can plan for the amount of hair you’ll need. When you arrive for your installation appointment, be sure to show up with clean hair. Hair should be washed with a cleansing shampoo and no conditioner, fully dried, and product free. This ensures that the adhesive properly seals to the natural hair and helps prevent premature slippage.

Essentials of Aftercare

Be sure you have these necessities when you leave the salon.

  • An extension brush for damage-free detangling and smoothing

  • Sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner for best results

  • A silk pillowcase to reduce friction and retain moisture

Maintenance Reminders:

  • Wait 72 hours to wash your hair after your Tape-Ins have been installed.
  • After that, wash your hair 1-2 times per week.
  • Condition from the midshaft down (not at your roots).
  • Use your extension brush, silk pillowcase, and sulfate free products.
  • Brush your hair from the back forward to help get in between the tapes.
  • Avoid going to bed with wet or damp hair.
  • Wear a loose braid or ponytail at night. This will help avoid tangling.
  • Keep your move-up appointments!
  • Communicate with your stylist if you have any questions or concerns.
  • Be sure your stylist has the right bond remover on hand for move-ups and removal.
