Postpartum hair loss is a common and temporary phenomenon experienced by many new mothers. Typically occurring around three to six months after childbirth, hormonal changes can cause increased shedding of your hair.

Understanding the prevalence of postpartum hair loss helps new mothers navigate this normal phase with reassurance, knowing that it is a common experience and there are solutions available. It’s definitely not something that’s fun to go through, but it helps knowing:

  • You aren’t alone.

  • You will get through this.

  • There are options for adding coverage to thinning areas!

Join us as we delve into an inspiring conversation with Stacie, a resilient woman who has faced postpartum hair loss head-on. In this candid Q&A, she shares her personal story of discovering confidence through hair extensions. We loved Stacie’s humor, laid-back approach and honesty when talking about her hair. Stacie/ Age 29/ New Mom

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

I’m Stacie and I’m 29. I live in Utah with my family and my pug. I’m an eyelash extensions master esthetician and I have a side business making decorated sugar cookies. I love camping and being outdoors. I think of myself as a tomboy in a girly girl profession.

How happy are you with your hair currently, if you rated it on a scale of 1 to 10?

I’d say a 6 or 7.

How would you describe your hair?

My hair is long, sometimes snarly and dry, sometimes greasy at the top. And probably a little damaged.

What are you noticing lately when you do your hair?

Now that there's less hair, it just doesn't seem to style as well as it used to. It definitely impacts my confidence, especially in pictures. At certain angles you can see those bald spots. I'm really low maintenance with my hair because I don't have a lot of time to spend on it.

I'm one thousand percent excited to try the extensions!

The Install

Method: Kera-Link (also called Fusion)
Length: 22"
We used a technique called micro bonding for Stacie's install. By cutting down the Kera-Link bonds, this allowed us to install them closer to her hairline and higher up on her scalp.
At the thinning areas and around her face, the bonds were cut into thirds.
Towards the back of her head and above her ear, the strands were cut in half.
Above the occipital bone, we used full bonds for extra fullness.

We checked in with Stacie mid-way through the install to ask her how the extensions were feeling. Here's what she said:

I can feel that they’re there but it’s not drastic or heavy. I wouldn’t know they’re in, really. I’m obsessed. I’m taking holiday pictures with my family next week, so this is going to be perfect for that. It’s really nice being the one receiving a service, too. I’m usually the one giving when I do eyelashes, so this feels relaxing to me. Moms, we’re always on the go and sometimes it feels like your own self-care is last on the list. I’m excited to try something that lets me look good and feel good and not have to do the work.

The Results

A few weeks after her hair transformation, we checked in with Stacie to see how she was liking them. She said:

"I love the extensions! My hair now is thick and full and I feel like it looks really good. I got family portraits done recently and I loved how my hair looked in all the photos. They give me a pop of blonde I didn't have in some areas. It makes me want to get more! My confidence has definitely increased."
