It’s normal for your hair to shed 50-100 strands per day as part of the natural hair cycle. Here are some normal signs of hair shedding:
- Seeing a few hairs in your hairbrush or on the sink counter after brushing
- Finding a small amount of hair in your shower drain or on your pillow in the morning
- Running your fingers through your hair after styling and having a few hairs fall out

What factors impact hair shedding?

How hair extensions affect the natural shedding process
When you’re wearing hair extensions, your natural hairs are closed inside of bonds and can’t shed how they normally would. Those hairs are trapped gently in the attachment points and can’t fall free when you run your fingers through your hair, brush, wash, or style it. When you go in for a maintenance appointment and your stylist releases the bonds to move them up, the hair that has shed can come off.
Just like when you find hairs in the shower or in your hairbrush, this is an indication that the natural hair growth and shedding process has occurred.
